Today

You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you’ll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be. Imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present. You can’t stand how bland life currently is. You spend all of your time thinking about your future. Thinking about all the things that will one day make you so happy. That’s good though, at least you have plans. Don’t dwell on those plans though. Don’t live today based on the plans of tomorrow. Live today based on the plans for today. Open your eyes and look at your own situation, look at everything around you. Be hopeful for a better future, be hopeful for things to get better, but you can’t live on simple hopes. You look to your future so you don’t have to look at today. You look to what can be instead of what is. You drive yourself mad because you couldn’t imagine living life the way it is today. Try to better today before bettering tomorrow. Make the present better before you make your future better.

If you need to make a new years resolution then you’re doing just what I’ve described. You’re putting your solvable problem off until you forget about it a few weeks into january. Making resolutions may make you feel better because you may think “Oh I’m going to do this, I promise myself this year.” But didn’t you say that last year? Didn’t you tell yourself that you’d do it? You didn’t though, did you? You say “This year I eventually hope to maybe sorta stop doing…blah blah (fill in the blank)” But you forgot about it and now your resolution for last year is your resolution of this year. You can’t control yourself. You forget about today because of how enveloped you are with tomorrow. Don’t forget about your present self. You can’t better your future self without bettering your present self first.

I’m no angel, I’m just as guilty of this as most people. I’m just one of the few people who will point it out to you. Live for today, not tomorrow.
